As makers, sometimes we spend so much time making things for other people that we forget to make things for ourselves too. Or even when we do manage to make something nice for ourselves, we let it sit too often in the closet for fear of “ruining it”, not wanting to take the extra work of hand-washing, or not feeling confident enough in the thing we’ve made.
The goal of this movement is to get over those fears, that self-doubt and actually celebrate all the awesome things we actually make!
So how do I join in?
On Wednesdays, wear something handmade. It can be something you made, or something someone else made.
Snap a picture of yourself going about your normal day wearing your handmade piece(s) and share it to Instagram with:
#OnWednesdaysWeWearHandmade
Download one or more of the post templates to use as the last image in your post, so other people can learn more about the movement!
(see bottom of post for details.)
Spread the love and don’t forget to tag the maker(s) of the handmade pieces in your pics so that we can all connect with more awesome people.
Who can participate?
Literally anyone. The more, the better!
If you are a maker, this is for you! Don’t forget that you are worth the time and energy of handmade pieces too! Wearing things you make can be such a great conversation starter. And it always feels great to say “Thanks! I made it!”
If you aren’t a maker, this is for you too! If you value handmade goods and small businesses we’re so glad you are here. You are the people who keep us makers going and your support means the world to us. By all means, we LOVE to see people wearing the things we make.
What counts as handmade?
If you made it yourself or bought it from someone who did (or maybe it was a gift!), that counts. No one’s going to be super strict about this though. If it’s handmade to you, it’s handmade to us!
It could be a sweater, a dress, jewelry, hair accessories, hats, you name it. They could be sewn, knit, crocheted, woven, assembled and any other way you could make something! There are a ton of cool things to wear that can be handmade.
